Live, by Sadie Robertson Reflection & Takeaways

Recently while stopping into a target on the way home from youth group, I picked up a copy of “Live” by Sadie Robertson. This book has been incredibly challenging for me and in turn, has made me think about the way I am spending my time, and if I am living truly for God.

I decided that I should share parts of a chapter (From “Know to “Realize”) with you.

Today we will be looking at the prodigal son, and I encourage you to take a moment to read Luke 15: 11-24 before we dive more deeply into the passage.

In the previous Chapter (Where Life Is Found), Sadie had told this story from a girl’s perspective; the younger daughter went to Hollywood, spending money recklessly and partying, and eventually found herself with no money, unfulfilled, alone, and full of shame. She thought of her family and wondered what they now thought of her, but knew that she needed to go home. So she walked home and went into a local coffee shop, where her dad was waiting for her with loving arms. After some denial from the daughter, they ended up going home to a celebration and her father said this to her:

“Daughter, you were dead, but now you are alive. You were lost, but now you are found. You are my daughter. Nothing you could ever do can change that. I am so sorry for all that has happened to you and all that has been done to you. You are safe now. You are forgiven, and you are altogether beautiful. This has always been your home, to remain and reside in forever.”

Read it again and imagine Jesus saying that to you.

What gaps in your heart have you been trying to fill?; Do you believe that Jesus can fill those gaps?; Why or why not? (I encourage you to write down your answers in a journal if you have a moment).

If you feel like you have been trying to use certain things to keep you going- have you discovered that they always end in pain, fear, emptiness, and feelings of worthlessness?

I want you to know that you are not worthless, and in giving your life to God, He can fill the deepest desires of your heart and soul.

  • You are already loved just as you are

  • You are already enough just as you are

  • You are already seen just as you are

  • You are already known just as you are

Because:

  • God is love.

  • God is enough.

  • God created you, formed you, and is with you for His satisfaction just because you are His.

Turn in God’s direction, spend a moment in prayer with Him today asking for his grace in your life, and to know that you are and have always been His daughter.

Amen.
